How Donald Trump's New Tariff Policy Impacts Kawaiies
Update on February 7th 2025
Donald Trump Reinstates ‘De Minimis’ Tariff Exemption For Shipments Under $800
Trump signed an executive order allowing low-value products from China to continue coming into the U.S. without additional charges.
The de minimis exemption will again be eliminated after the U.S. commerce secretary establishes a system to “fully and expediently process and collect tariff revenue.”
As a result, our parcels should face fewer delays when arriving in the United States, with no customs duties or handling fees applied upon entry. This is great news for our customers in the United States.

Recently, a change in U.S. tariff policy may cause some uncertainties regarding shipping and customs for anyone planning to ship to the United States. Here’s everything you need to know:
What’s changed with tariffs?
Donald Trump’s executive orders on February 1st 2025 have brought changes to U.S. tariffs, specifically affecting products imported from China. One key aspect of this change is a 10% tariff increase on Chinese imports, which includes many of the goods we ship.
Will our prices be affected?
We want to assure you that despite the tariff increase, we will not be raising our prices, and there will be no extra shipping fees for any orders to the United States. We believe in keeping things transparent and affordable for our customers, and we are committed to absorbing these additional costs to maintain your shopping experience as usual.
Customs Duties: What You Need to Know
While we’ve taken steps to prevent price increases on our end, we are still unsure whether customers will be required to pay customs duties upon receiving their packages as Donald Trump has not clarified this when he removed the de minimis exemption. If you receive any emails or letters regarding customs duties please email us at info@kawaiies.com with a photo or screenshot of the letter so that we can look into this matter.
What Is the De Minimis exemption?
In the past, the U.S. had a De Minimis Exemption that allowed shipments valued under $800 to be imported into the U.S. from China without incurring duties or taxes. However, with the recent changes under Trump’s executive orders, this exemption has been abolished for certain goods. This could lead to additional fees for shipments, but this will depend on various factors, including the value of your order and the specific product category.
Possible Delays
With these new regulations in place, we also want to inform you that there may be slight delays in shipping times to the U.S. due to customs processing and other logistical factors. We’re doing everything we can to minimise any disruptions, but we kindly ask for your patience as we navigate these changes.
Shipping times to the United States were around 5 to 10 business days. This may extend to 20 business days depending on the delays caused by the new policies.
What’s Next?
We understand this might cause some confusion and frustration, and we want to assure you that we’re here for you. We’ll continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as needed. Please keep an eye on our blog for further information, and feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions about your order.
